About the Centre

A Legacy Built on Love, Education & Emancipation

The Centre was conceived and constructed by the Hadiza Imam family as Sadaqatul Jariyah — a perpetual charity — in memory of the late Hajiya Hadiza Imam, honouring her lifelong passion for women's education, development, and emancipation.

"Our dream is to make this a model skills acquisition centre where young women and youth can learn, grow, and contribute to the sustainable development of their communities."

Fully furnished with 14 classrooms, knitting and sewing rooms, a computer lab, library, kitchen, and counselling room — the Centre is NABTEB-accredited and has trained a total of 170 youth (7 boys and 163 girls) across seven trade disciplines since its inauguration in May 2019 with an initial cohort of 17 trainees. A borehole was sunk and overhead tanks provided for the use of the Centre and the surrounding community. It partnered with Mafita (DFID/Adam Smith International, UK) to standardise its curriculum, and has been registered with the Kano State Agency for Mass Education.

The Woman Behind the Mission

"She spent her life ensuring other women had the education and tools she knew could change everything."

Hajiya Hadiza Garba Imam was born on November 9, 1959 in Kano. She attended Shahuci Primary School, Shekara Girls (Senior Boarding) School, and Government Girls College, Dala, Kano — before earning a Diploma and B.Ed in Adult Education from Kano State Polytechnic and Bayero University, Kano. In 1998 she won a Chevening Scholarship to the University of Manchester, UK, where she studied Women's Health, Education and Development.

Her 26-year career at the Kano Agency for Mass Education began at Kurmawa Primary School, before she moved to the famous Kano Women Centre where she served for four years and was promoted to Vice Principal, then Principal, before retiring voluntarily in December 2010 as Director of Women Programmes. She was a passionate champion of girl-child education, adult literacy, and women's empowerment, earning numerous awards from local and international organisations. In retirement she chaired the Basic Education Association (BEA), was proprietor of Starfield Children's Academy, Kano, and a Director of Springsville International School, Asokoro, Abuja.

Hajiya Hadiza was married to Malam Garba Imam and was blessed with six children and seven grandchildren. She passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 following the Mina stampede, and was buried in the holy city of Makkah. This Centre is her eternal legacy and the family's perpetual gift to the community she loved. May Allah SWT grant her Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.
