HADIZA IMAM WOMEN CENTER

The Center was conceived and constructed by HADIZA IMAM's family as “Sadaqatul Jariyah" in memory of late Hadiza Imam, and to support her passion for Women Education , Development and Emancipation . The Center is non-governmental , non partisan , non political institute .

men/women, taking their own initiatives self-fulfillment and sustainable social
and economic development.

MISSION

To provide adequate information and mobilize women and youth on family life, and population development as well as capacity building with a view to making them contribute positively to the development of their communities. Empowering women and vulnerable youth at risk in rural and urban areas. Thus, undertaking the task of promoting human transformation by improving knowledge through education, health, livelihood and sustainable development.

ABOUT THE CENTER

Our dream is to make it a MODEL SKILLS ACQUISITION CENTER where young  women/girls and youth empowerment and development activities can take place, hence the need for the involvement of both government and non-governmental organizations.

The Center is newly built and comprised of two blocks of two floors each, having a total of 14 classrooms, knitting and sewing rooms, computer room, library, counseling room, kitchen, Principal’s office and staff room, toilets and stores.

A borehole was also sunk and overhead tanks provided for the use of the Center and the community. The Center is fully  furnished and well  equipped .

The Center worked  with Mafita, a DFID-Funded program implemented by Adam Smith International, UK as technical partners to Standardize the facilities and Curriculum of the Center. The Center has been accredited by National Business and Technical Examination Board ( NABTEB ) with a registration number 20269 . We are also registered with Kano State Agency for Mass Education . From its inauguration in May 2019 , The Center has so far Trained a total of  170 Youth in various trades comprising 7 boys and 163 girls .

ABOUT HAJIYA HADIZA IMAM

Hajiya Hadiza Garba Imam was born on November 9, 1959. She attented Shahuci Primary School, Shekara Girls (senior boarding) School and Government Girls College, Dala, Kano City. Hajiya Hadiza later attended Kano State Polytechnic in 1980, where she obtained a Diploma in Adult Education and B.Ed in Adult Education from Bayero University, Kano. Hajiya Hadiza was a Chevening Scholar in 1998 at the University of Manchester, UK where she studied Women's Health, Education & Devlopment.

The above provided Hadiza with the required skills to start her long career in Education. Hadiza's teaching career started at the Kano Local Education Authority where she taught at the Kurmawa Primary School, Kano city. In, 1984, Hadiza moved to the Agency for Mass Education where she taught at the famous Kano Women Centre for 4 years before she was promoted to Vice Principal and subsequently Principal. Her Career at the Agency spanned 26 years during which she served in various departments and capacities involved in women development. Hadiza retired voluntarily in December 2010 as Director, Women Programmes.

During her working life, she was awarded various prizes and trophies for her role in women education, empowerment and advocacy by both local and international organisations as well as Kano State Government.

In her spare time and after her retirement, Hadiza was involved in Da'wah , women empowerment , and other philanthropic activities in Kano City and rural areas. She chaired a non-governmental organisation, The Basic Education Association (BEA) which focused primarily on girl-child education, women adult education and empowerment. She was also the proprietor of the Starfield Children's Academy, Kano and a Director of Springsville International School Asokoro, Abuja.

Hajiya Hadiza was married to Malam Garba Imam and was blessed with six children and seven grand children

Hajiya Hadiza died on Friday, September 25, 2015 following the stampede in Mina,  and was buried in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. May ALLAH SWT grant her Aljannat Firdaus and bless her entire family, ameen.
